The Traveling Shovel

Friday, April 6, 2007 - Workshops/Photography Industry

Ok, we have not gone crazy. I want to start out by stating that. The traveling shovel has become a phenomenon, and if you are a member on the DWF, you know what I am talking about. If you aren't, or you haven't been paying attention, let me elaborate.

Last week in Vegas, we bought a shovel. Well, I didn't buy a shovel, Joel did. We were at the desert shootout during the DWF convention, and Joel bought a shovel that was used in the photoshoot. John Michael Cooper - AltF- used it for a shot he had done – shown below. Check out our Vegas posts if you want to read more about that story.

Anyway, we posted some images of the “shovel” and it’s journey from Vegas to PA on the DWF, and everyone went nuts. Somehow, the idea came up that we should ship the shovel around the country to different photographers, and they could take a photo of themselves with the shovel. So it went back and forth, and everyone loved the idea. Right now we have 23 people on the list to receive the shovel, and I am sure we will get more. It’s going to go all over the country, to Canada, and it might even make it over to the UK, Scotland and Sweden.

We are hoping to get this all accomplished before next year’s convention in January. The shovel will then make it’s final appearance at the convention and retire!

So that is the basics, we have something else in the works for the shovel, but that isn’t quite ready yet, so we will keep you updated. And now, without further ado, here is our shovel image!

First are 2 images from John that he took during the shoot in the desert - and in case you are wondering, no, the bride is not dead. She very willingly climbed into the trunk for this shot!

And here is our shovel image - the kids got in on it too. If you really study it and read into it, there is a story there. Start on the left of the image and weave your way around, see what you come up with.
